For new beginners that are wanting to start using essential oils, but don't know which oils to start with first, here's a list of the most top-rated essential oils that everyone needs in their homes and purses!

#1 - Frankincense

Frankincense oil is known as the King of Essential Oils. This oil is by far the most well-rounded oil that can be used for emotional, mental, and physical health. There are three different types of Frankincense oils that you need to know: Boswellia Frereana, Boswellia Carteri, and Boswellia Sacra (Boswellia Serrata).

Benefits:
  • Frankincense contains a compound called alpha-pinene that has been known to fight skin cancer. Studies have also shown that it induces breast cancer cell death. It is not a cure, but a natural treatment to heal your body in addition to cancer treatment protocol, supplements, and exercise.

  • Can help in reducing inflammation, especially joint and skin inflammation.

  • Increases spiritual awareness. Great way to use when in meditation and prayer.

  • Crosses the brain barrier to help with poor memory, anxiety, and mood disorders.

  • Balances immune system.

#2 - Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is one of the most popular oils that are used in the world today. Most cultures used lavender oil as a perfume and the Egyptians used it in mummification. Because it has versatile properties, it is a must-have oil, especially if you are starting to use essential oils for your health. It is widely known to help with sleep and reduces stress, but this powerful essential oil can do many more.

#3 - Peppermint

This is the second most commonly used essential oil. With its cooling and numbing benefits, it is great for muscle pain and headaches. Most people have known peppermint oil to help with fatigue. According to Dr. Josh Axe, studies showed that it could help with symptoms of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) (2007, Human Study). By rubbing it topically on your belly, the oils are absorbed into the intestines. After four weeks of using peppermint oil for IBS, they saw a 50% reduction in symptoms including abdominal bloating, discomfort, diarrhea, constipation, and pain.

In an animal study, peppermint oil has the ability to open airways and act as a decongestant; it had a relaxant effect on the airways of lab animals.

Benefits
  • Soothes respiratory issues, helps to clear a stuffy nose

  • Boosts energy

  • Used in a combination of Eucalyptus oil, it is shown to have a calming effect on headaches

  • Great for digestive issues and gut issues

The main property is Menthol or Mentha; acts similar to hot peppers that contain capsaicin (cooling effect) it stimulates your nerves in a very similar way.

You can also use turmeric oil in your cooking. Some people add it to their tea. If you do take this oil internally, monitor your intake and take it moderately. Digesting too much essential oil can cause a reverse affect.
